Order of operations after the click
The download is the cheap part. The expensive part is a profile that loads before you meant it to, or a companion overlay that never injects.
- 1Prefer the official MSI Afterburner landing page over mystery mirrors and “driver booster” bundles.
- 2If Windows names a publisher you do not recognise, cancel and fetch again from a trusted channel.
- 3Install, reboot if asked, open Afterburner before games: confirm sensors move under a real load.
- 4Export a baseline profile before any OC Scanner or undervolt session.
Keep the installer through one real game session so file metadata stays comparable if something regresses later.
Refuse these habits
Do not disable security tooling as step one. Do not stack two fan brains. Do not copy a stranger’s +150 core offset onto a laptop with OEM policy still in charge.
